The Mystery of The Missing Parrots

 Swimming in the Rio Negro

A few days later we see Graciana again, and she comes over to talk to us. She is very friendly and gives us tips on where to visit. That afternoon we set off for El Condor, a seaside village at the mouth of the Rio Negro. The bus we catch is forced to make an emergency stop by the side of the road. With the help of my dictionary I try to understand what the problem is – Vicki points to the back of the bus. The rear window has fallen out!!

The village has one of the widest, and possibly windiest, beaches I have seen. There are lots of Kitesurfers doing stunts out at sea, and wind luges race across the sands.

One of the attractions is the 30 kilometres of soft sandstone cliffs that is home to hundreds of thousands of burrowing parrots – supposedly. We trek for a couple of kilometres and see a total of one parrot, lucky for us there is no mist.
